Mosob created the perfect atmosphere and venue for this year’s Mwanzo Mwema Annual Dinner. It was cosy, colourful and cultured. With burning bukhoor (incense) greeting you as you stepped into the restaurant and guards, drums, utensils and textiles decorating the interior, it was clear we were no longer running on London time – we were in Eritrea.

The food was flavoursome with samosa and flafel to start and ‘Njera’ bread, spicy vegetables and lamb for main course. The company was diverse and everyone seemed to have a great time. We said a few words about Mwanzo Mwema and the work we have achieved, followed by a raffle with prizes ranging from a holistic body massage to chocolates and a Caribbean meal for two!

It was an excellent evening of celebration that ended with mango and banana cupcakes and music.

The best Annual Dinner yet!  The final amount raised will be announced soon…

Over the last 12  months we have been working away holding small charity events in central London. From craft stalls to charity dinners, we have been working frantically, desperately trying to reach our financial goal to ensure that we are eligible for charitable registration in 2010.

We have a new programme of events for 2010 that we shall be listing on the site shortly, including the performance-based SOAS Africa Culture Show, Africa craft stalls  and food, and our annual reception which will be held in the summer.

We urge anyone who would like to get involved – whether though offering your money (however little!) or your time contributing ideas or valuable contacts – to get in touch and get stuck in as soon as possible. We have lots of exciting projects and collaborations lined up – so watch this space!

All questions and enquiries are welcome. We hope to hear from you soon!

The MM website has been updated and now includes an online library of tips and tricks for jobs and CVs.  This section will be expanded over time – we need your recommendations for what advice and information you need available, so please leave your comments.

Welcome to the first Mwanzo Mwema website.  More information will be posted soon, and hopefully the site will grow to include regular updates on projects, project overviews, a forum for discussion and a who’s who of our team.
